Google Maps Country Codes

Last modified: September 26, 2026

Introduction

Ninja Geolocation uses two-letter country codes in its global regional settings and Address Field autocomplete restrictions. Use a current ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code supported by Google for the country you need.

Where Country Codes Are Used

  • Global default country: Sets the site's default regional behavior under Ninja Forms > Settings > Geolocation. When this setting is empty, Ninja Geolocation falls back to the United States.
  • Address Field country restrictions: Limits autocomplete suggestions to one or more selected countries.

The global country is a default or geographic preference, not a strict boundary. Use the Address Field's country restrictions when a form needs an explicit autocomplete-country limit. Proximity, area-bounds, and user-location bias are separate settings and do not use country codes.

Code Format and Examples

Use the two-letter country code, not a telephone calling code, top-level domain, or three-letter country code.

Ninja Geolocation normalizes supported codes, but uppercase values are easiest to recognize in documentation and configuration.

Current Authoritative References

A complete static list can become outdated. Verify both the country-code standard and Google's current regional coverage:

A valid ISO code does not guarantee that every Google Maps Platform feature or address detail is available in that country.

Country Versus Language

Country and language settings serve different purposes. Country affects regional preference or restriction. Language controls supported Google interface and service text. When the global language is empty, Ninja Geolocation falls back to English.

Troubleshooting

Select the issue below that best matches what you are experiencing.

The expected country does not appear

Confirm that the two-letter code is correct and that the Address Field's country restrictions, place types, and bias settings do not conflict. Then verify Google's current coverage for the requested service.

Results still appear outside the global country

The global country is a default or bias, not a strict boundary. Configure the Address Field's country restriction when autocomplete results must be limited to selected countries.

Results appear in the wrong language

Review the language setting separately from the country code. Changing a country does not automatically force every result into that country's primary language.
